Feng Shui Slugs

January 25, 2010

Who knew? Custom Order Feng Shui Slugs for a lovely lady in Belgium.
Passion/ Love Slug, Yin and Yang Slugs.

The Passion/Love Slug is gorgeous in rich, red and super-soft yarns. I used a scarlet red chenille yarn that has amazing tiny flickers of sparkly red through it – like the sparks of passion!

I also used another shade of red chenille yarn and a yarn made up of loads of fiery red threads.

I noticed (and you can see it in the photo) one of these threads made a little loop outside the knitting and was about to tuck it in neatly when I thought it was like being ‘undone’ in passion so I have left it! LOL.

The white and silver Slug is knit with pure white bamboo yarn with white wool mix yarn and a beautiful silver fibre yarn. The fibres look white in the photos but they are actually silver white. I stuffed this one lightly so it is soft and more feminine.

The black and gold one I made with black bamboo yarn with bright gold lurex yarn and a dull gold fibre yarn. I stuffed it more firmly and made it slightly bigger than the white and silver slug.

What a joy – these Feng Shui Slugs practically made themselves! Beautiful energy.

Darling Donkey

The thing I really love about donkeys is their VERY LARGE EARS. Darling De la Creme Donkey is an excellent listener for little ones. And he’s warm and comforting being stuffed with pure wool.

Mustard Slug

January 10, 2010

I am really liking the self-colored slugs like Mustard Slug above after some very fancypants slugs like wildly, gorgeously over-the-top flamboyant Jade’s Slug below custom-made for a 12-year old girl. Note multi-piercings of safety pins and silver rings. Balance, people.

Soft for softies

December 16, 2009

Super-pink, ultra-soft Pink Hedgehog has gone to her forever home with a beautiful granny in the US. She was not feeling so great so her daughter had me send her Pink Hedgehog who is now getting lots of cuddles. I am really moved by this since it hadn’t occurred to me how comforting knit toys like super-soft, super-pink Pinky here would be for the more frail amongst us.

Big Luxe Slug

It’s getting a little out-of-control here in the Uncommon Slug department. Our knit slugs are getting fancier and fancier. Slug royalty, fantasy slugs (huh?) even glittery slugs – ew! How lovely!

Gracie and Zozzy Slugs

Created to order: Gracie and Zozzy Slugs

I love it when someone asks me to make a particular lovey for them. I feel that their energy somehow gets knitted-in and gives the toys something extra.

Here’s my latest custom order – for two co-ordinated slugs; one in mottled purple, the other in mottled pink. Their person wants them to be called “Zozzy and Gracie”. How cute is that?

Big Furry Slug

Big Furry Slug

Big Furry Slug

You might have noticed that I’m having a bit of a furry phase. This is mainly caused by having ordered some gorgeous luxury yarn and making all sorts of things out of it.

Now I know you might think that the pic above shows a em, blob of some sort. But let me reassure you that in real life it is a fine specimen of a Big Furry Slug!

I am really liking mixing chunky cotton yarn with the luxe faux fur yarn. Contrary to what my photo shows, it does allow more definition of the slug shape! *lol*

Sparkly things

Tinsel Pig

Tinsel Pig

Gosh, I’m embarrassed by how long it’s been since my last entry. I have been distracted by many sparkly and interesting things including new darlings such as the golden tinsel porcine princess above.

I’ve just been answering interview questions for a Featured Seller article which has reminded me of one of the many wonderful things about making knit toys for sale. The customer element! Over the past several months I’ve been influenced in the loveliest way possible by people who love LullabyLily creatures. For example, Tinsel Pig would not have been made had two Lullaby Lily friends not told me how much they loved my tinsel mohair pony.

There’s something magical that happens when I make a knit toy, I never know just how it’s going to turn out until it’s finished. And now I’m really feeling the influence of what people think and like and have made comments about. It all sinks into my subconscious and is very inspiring. So thank you.

Marmalade Cat

Did you know marmalade / ginger cats are almost always males? Here is very marmaladey knit cat with a curl at the end of his tail. He too was made from the yarn stash (below). What a purr-pants.

Denim Bliss Cat

Denim Bliss Cat

Just like real cats knit cats seem to choose their people too. I know about real cats choosing their people because I regularly saw them do that when I volunteered at the SPCA Cat Module. (They would turn their back on and completely ignore one person and be all over another in the twitch of a whisker.) So little Denim Bliss Cat above was created several months ago in pure cotton chunky yarn and suddenly her person appeared in the form of a toddler girl just the other day. A very lovely friend of mine wanted to buy a knit toy for this little one but had not met her yet. Luckily she lives near me so she chose Denim Bliss Cat from my actual real life hand knit creatures that comfort. It turned out that the little girl has a real thing for cats, LOVES cats! A happy home for a happy cat. I must make more knit cats…
